Building Resilience Against Climate Effects (BRACE)

The Building Resilience Against Climate Effects (BRACE) framework is designed to support public health action to protect and promote human health in the context of climate change. BRACE helps health departments at all jurisdictional levels collaborate with communities to assess climate and health threats, develop effective strategies, and act to promote health, equity, and climate resilience. Originally developed by the CDC’s Climate and Health Program (CHP), Climate Equity Policy Center worked with CHP and a team of partners to develop a revised framework and implementation materials. You can learn more about the revision goals and process on our BRACE projects page.

The BRACE framework provides a process for public health departments to work with community partners to address climate adaptation and mitigation in an effective, informed, and equitable way.

Implementation Guide

The BRACE Implementation Guide provides a step by step guide for health departments as they work with community to prioritize and implement actions to address climate and health. The Implementation Guide provides practical, flexible, and action-oriented approaches to accommodate a range of contexts and capacities. While BRACE primarily supports the activities of state, Tribal, local, and territorial health departments, community-based organizations, and partners from other sectors may also find the Guide useful.

Worksheets and Resources

A range of downloadable template worksheets and resources accompany the BRACE Implementation Guide. These resources are available on our partner UMass Chan Medical School Prevention Resource Center’s website (scroll down).
